Building a sustainable vision for the future of our church, and the future of all local churches.
In August 2020, UUMC forged a new path ahead by passing a Five Year Vision to start a new model for ministry called the “Alternate Income Model.” Follow the link for more details.
What is the Alternate Income Model?
The alternate income model is when a church engages the economic community by opening businesses and other revenue streams that help a church conduct ministry and alleviate social problems in the community. The offering plate alone limits the amount of good a church can do. This isn’t opening businesses to keep our pockets flush, it’s opening businesses and creating revenue streams to help transform the community to social work.
What can it do for UUMC?
This model helps UUMC by providing more funding for church operations, mission work, and solving social problems within our neighborhood and the city of Tulsa. When we have more resources to work with, we can help more people and solve more problems. And that is what we intend to do over the next five years.
What can it do for other churches?
One of the key aspects of this project is that we are developing it to be replicated in many different contexts. We are hoping to learn all the lessons and blaze the new trails needed to help make this model work in other churches for the benefit of our community and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
